In the World of Thandoria characters often
face situations where they must win political debates to
change the course of events and sometimes the river of
history.
In any political debate, the various
characters or power group spokesman involved have a
Political Attack score, a Political Defense score, and
Political Power points.
Political Power Points are like hit points
in that once a character runs out of them, he has been
defeated in any debate. A character's political power
points is equal to:
1 + Constitution bonus +
Intelligence or Wisdom bonus (whichever is
higher).
Political Defense is like Armor Class, and
an opponent must equal or exceed your defense score in order
to damage your Political Power points. Your political
Defense is equal to:
10+ Political Power Points + your
highest Political Skill's bonus.
Political Attack is your bonus "to hit" on
the d20 roll to try and break through an opponent's
defenses. A character's Political Attack bonus is
equal to the combined bonuses of the following four skill
bonuses divided by four and rounded down:
Diplomacy
Bluff
Intimidate
Perform (oratory)
These skills define the essence of a
character's ability to make moving speeches and duke it out
in a council where the fate of nations or even small
villages hang in the balance. As a character rises in
Political influence based on the growth of these four
skills, he gains various political maneuvers to further
refine his influential style. Each time a character
gains an additional 5 ranks in one of his political skills,
he gains the ability to use a new political maneuver in
debates. Also, characters may use any of the General
political maneuvers during a political debate.
