Heart Asunder

Alone on the shivering carpet you try to keep warm by the flickering fire as fierce snowflakes
float dreamily to earth.

And your heart imprisons a vision of the
one love that enlivens your soul.

But this layer of crystalline snow, this frosty illusion, is woven between earth and sky
and your heart is frozen in grief

You feel apart from the inner sky
which thunders to find the romantic ice cracking.

The enchantment melting as you stand facing
another solid human being,
another person being human.

And your quivering shadow is
cast across their ground of being.

You tremble in the cold saturnine
taste of your reflection.

You must soil your shaking hands
to erect a structure for this dancing pulse.

Because every foundation needs roots;
needs for you to probe the fabric of desire
so you can pull out your worst and
annihilate it in the mirror of otherness
and polish your gifts in love's ethereal mist.

Relating calls for the discipline of freedom,
a stance that binds you every moment
to the original vision of your love and its longing,
however torturous and however terrifying,

So you can look inward and sense the crackling
spiral of life with twinkling eyes that know,
You are not this body,
you are not just this body,
You are an oracle of living chaotic love...

Sometimes relationships just don't work out, and you have to move on.  But gradually you start to gain experience and let go of some of your adolescent notions about what love is.  I often struggle in relationships when I feel the equal desires to both be alone and be with someone very special and unique.  I find that originality of character really ignites my soul.  As a write I just love really interesting characters.

But in real life, and in America, I find a lot of the people although unique in their own ways, to be card board cut-outs of the next person in line, with all the same modern needs and desires.  I often think that the modern mind has targeted a package of false desires and that there's all these carrots and stick being touted around by those in power.  It seems like these days everyone has to have a big house, a nice car, and a cell phone.  I like the modern emphasis on technology, but I find along with it we have a famine in our spiritual quest to know Eternal Being.

The enchantment melting as you stand facing

another solid human being,

another person being human.

And in that shallowness of heart, we look at relationship as stepping stones to our success only.  We ask even if unconsciously, what does this person give to me, what do they add to my field, my inner peace, my happiness.  We've forgotten how to be and live in a state of unreasonable happiness.  I think we would do better to ask what we could give to others and take action whenever a special being enters our lives again.
