Satori

Two circles unite
sun and moon come together
eternity flows.

One heart opens wide
living waters surge inward
tears crawling from pure stories.

This sacred flow aspires
to express the divine through
a fountain of radiant wisdom

as rain falls on the cracked ground
fertilizing being in the
depths of pure satori.

As in the heavens, so in each of us,
we ascend fully into the moment
returning to the vision of wholeness.

Yet we resist the inward current
carrying the secrets of the
mountains to the sea.
we are afraid of the awakening voice

Calling from heaven within
and we stand in opposition
to the dancing flame in our hearts

Asking where is passion?
what is our purpose?
how can action be actionless?

When you’re in that state of deep conversation with the source of life, you actually learn something from the universe. Actually, in Latin "verse" means "to turn" and "uni" means "one". So the universe is the turning of the One. One verse. One vibration. In the word conversation you hear "verse" again with "con" which means "with" or "together". So to engage the conversation with life you must turn with another or with the Eternal One.

In the last decade the hands-on-healing art called Reiki has become popular again. "Rei" means "sacred or holy spirit" while "Ki" means life force. So Reiki is the sacred flow of life force. Like most new trends and disciplines that get popular, that art has been cheapened with people becoming Reiki healing masters after three short attunements. The astrological cycles of Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn show the way an art matures in terms of years practicing it. It takes two years (one Mars cycle) of initiation and apprenticeship to learn and start working with an art. After 12 years (one Jupiter cycle) then a person becomes adept at an art or skill that they’ve practice loyally and wholeheartedly. This is the time when they can begin teaching apprentices the art. Jupiter is the planet that symbolizes teaching. So then the person becomes a teacher of the art. After 30 years (one Saturn cycle) a person becomes a master and can actually train teachers. Experience united with art brings mastery. And it would take 51 years (one Chiron orbit) to become a Grand Master!

There’s another art that is in dire need of being re-introduced to our fast-paced culture. The Japanese word for this art is Reikan where "Rei" means "sacred spirit" and "Kan" means intuition or inspiration. So Reikan means sacred intuition or divine inspiration, which emerges naturally when you are open to the conversation with divinity, with the archetypes or original images of the universe. And you open to divine inspiration through creative arts, meditation, and the life of the imagination when you feel enlightened. This is the experience of satori, natural grace. I wrote Satori about that direct experience of enlightenment which intensifies the more you find yourself doing Reikan, being divinely inspired.

When you open your heart to the living waters of divine inspiration you open to love without conditions. You become a lens for the divine image because you were made in that image. The first name used for God in Genesis is "Elohim" in Hebrew, which is actually a plural form of the divine meaning the creative attributes or spiritual essences of God. The understanding in the Hebrew mystical tradition is that they are creative spirits or emanations of divinity who give birth to creation and who define the spectrum of archetypes and the attributes of God. But if you take the Hebrew letters of "Elohim" apart and break them down into their archetypal meanings you get, "Spirit aspires to express eternity through a fountain of divine wisdom." This is why I wrote:

This sacred flow aspires
to express the divine through
a fountain of radiant wisdom

as rain falls on the cracked ground
fertilizing being in the
depths of pure satori.

As in the heavens, so in each of us,
we ascend fully into the moment
returning to the vision of wholeness.

Only in the now can you be unified, one, and whole. And wholeness is the key to holiness and vision. This talk of ascension we hear in both the New Age and the Christian tradition is very misleading. Jesus said that the Kingdom of Heaven would be made on Earth. Everybody’s trying to get raptured out of here, tired of their lives and their circumstances like life is a struggle that they can’t wait to be done with. And so they’re calling it quits. But even Christ’s spiritual light body (merkaba) could be felt and touched by the disciples. The only place we’re going is more fully into the eternal here and now because that’s all there really is! Here and Now, a living eternal present, a gift of life. Who’s going to do all those dishes after the great heavenly feast ends? Stop seeking immunity from life’s harsh side, the side that demands that we grow through challenge. This is how we mature individually and as a spiritual race. The salvation we desperately seek only arrives when we ascend fully into the love of the moment. That’s my new slogan.

Ascension into the Here and Now!

That’s the rapture. And it can happen right now while you’re reading these words. Just close your eyes and journey within. Open your heart to love, universal love, and breathe in life. Then open your eyes and dare to see what you’ve seen on the inside out here in the world, in the birds, the sky, the trees, in people, places, books, and oceans! That’s living the Mystery through and from your heart.

Yet we resist the inward current
carrying the secrets of the mountains to the sea.
we are afraid of the awakening voice

Calling from heaven within
and we stand in opposition
to the dancing flame in our hearts

Asking where is passion?
what is our purpose?
how can action be actionless?

The Hebrews called those who could interpret the spiritual language of the heavens "ashaph", which breaks down archetypally into "The Spirit communicates through the sacred flames." An astrological chart only describes your potential. It’s up to you to actualize that birth vision. It’s your spiritual responsibility to explore your passion, discover your purpose, and make your action actionless.

The Chinese call actionless action "wu wei", which simply translates to graceful action, the kind of action that happens naturally and spontaneously without being forced by the ego. That’s the kind of action that life calls for. This is the authentic way of being that the world yearns for. No system of government, education, religion, or corporation can contain even one human life or human heart. A system has never advanced humanity. Only humans have evolved humanity. There’s no substitute for the vital, living presence of a being who has stepped out into true authenticity.

If you commit yourself to a path of devotion to a sacred craft the whole universe will get behind you and support you. One authentic being can transform society. A system can do nothing but hold the existing structures in balance. If one person awakens, then the collective feels it. The scriptures say, "Creation is groaning for the Sons of God to be revealed." It’s waiting desperately for us to mature into our full potential as children of divine being.

When we do move from being children to mature relationship with divinity, or move beyond the milk to the rich solid food, then we will come to the table with something magical to share with God. Not that God needs it. But God will enjoy and love it! We’re not just pawns in a universal chess game of good against evil. We have choices to make in the game of life that will advance the plot. An angel would rather guard over one human heart than a whole galaxy of enlightened stars and planets. Because we still have to choose. The path ahead is open.

In the beginning our race was a seed, but a seed cannot grow in the light. It must sink down into the darkness, into the rich soil of experience where it can take root and grow. This Age that we’re moving toward is the time when the seed sprouts and cracks through the ground to meet the Kingdom of Heaven for the first time collectively. Then we will know that we are beings of pure love, wisdom, and light.
