There are two primary aspects of fantasy world building. The first involves the creation of the world after youve forged a world vision. This process focuses on developing your world from the top-down. It involves defining your world vision, creating a global map, developing cosmology, history, world geography, climate, ecology, cultures, races, political geography, and more. The second part of world building involves the development of specifics like regions, towns, ruins, inhabitants, situations, creatures, and many other details. This part is essential for developing either a role-playing campaign or simply creating good background for stories. Fleshing out a world is the bottom-up approach to world design and involves the selection of a location in the world and its subsequent development.
